    1. Matricellular Protein (fasciclin family) associated with cell adhesion
    2. Encoded by the human POSTN gene
    3. Increased in Type 2 Asthma (Eosinophilic Asthma) correlated with airway inflammation and remodeling
  • Causes

  1. Severe Eosinophilic Asthma (T2 Asthma)
    1. Periostin is a marker of Allergic Asthma activity including airway inflammation and remodeling and longterm prognosis
    2. Associated with increased IL-4 and IL-13 activity in lung fibroblasts and airway epithelial cells
    3. Periostin triggers Eosinophil degranulation as well as the production of superoxide anions, TGF-B and CysLT from Eosinophils
  2. Periostin has higher baseline levels with certain subtypes of Eosinophilic Asthma (T2 Asthma)
    1. Eosinophilic Chronic Rhinosinusitis
    2. Aspirin Induced Asthma
    3. Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis (ABPA)
    4. Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis
