  1. Brief Procedural Sedation
    1. Rare use in U.S. now (other agents are preferred)
    2. Ideal for CT Head (brief action, Seizure Prophylaxis)
    3. May be accompanied to CT with RN (low risk of respiratory depression, or other serious adverse effects)
  • Mechanism
  1. Barbiturate
  1. Dose: 2.5 mg/kg IV up to 100 mg (maximum administration rate 50 mg/min)
  2. May repeat additional 1.25 mg/kg as needed twice
  3. Observe for Hypotension
