  1. Schizophrenia
  2. Bipolar Disorder (Type 1)
  3. Acute Mania or mixed disorder
  • Mechanism
  1. Atypical Antipsychotic
  2. Dopamine Partial Agonist at D2 and D3 receptors
  1. Start 1.5 mg orally daily
  2. May increase to 3 mg orally daily after the first day (after 2 weeks in Bipolar Depression)
  3. Maximum: 6 mg/day
  • Drug Interactions
  1. Cariprazine is metabolized by CYP3A4
  2. Reduce Cariprazine dose when taking strong CYP3A4 Inhibitors
  • Safety
  1. Unknown safety in pregnancy and Lactation
  • Adverse Effects

  2. Hyperprolactinemia
  3. Weight gain (low risk)
  4. Somnolence
  5. Extrapyramidal Side Effects (high risk)
