TFCC Steroid Injection, Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex Corticosteroid Injection

  • Indications
  1. Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex Injury (TFCC Injury)
    1. Refractory, inflammatory pain at TFCC
  • Preparation
  1. Syringe 3 ml
  2. Needle 25 to 27 gauge (1.25 to 1.5 inch)
  3. Methylprednisolone 20 mg (0.5 ml of 40 mg/ml solution)
  4. Lidocaine 1% 0.5 ml
  • Technique
  1. Patient sits with Forearm pronated and resting against a table top or pillow
  2. Prepare skin with antiseptic (e.g. Chlorhexidine, Povidone-Iodine)
  3. High Frequency Ultrasound Linear probe
    1. Placed overlying the dorsal wrist, in transverse axis (horizontal, in line with wrist joint)
  4. Insert needle in-plane with Ultrasound into the ulnar wrist directed toward radial wrist
    1. Injection is deep to extensor carpi ulnaris tendon
