  1. Hand Injury
  2. Splinting position of hand and wrist
    1. Avoids extensor contractures at MCP joints
    2. Avoids flexor contractures at IP joints
  • Technique
  • Position (holding a glass or can)
  1. Wrist extended at 25 degrees
  2. MCP joint flexed at 60 degrees (45 to 70 degrees)
  3. Each IP joint (PIP and DIP) flexed at 5-10 degrees
  4. Thumb in slight abduction away from palm
  • Precautions
  1. Inability to assume position of function is a red flag
    1. Suggests nerve or Tendon Injury
