  • Dosing
  1. IV Dosing for Community Acquired Pneumonia or Acute Skin Infections
    1. Day 1
      1. Give 200 mg IV infused over 60 minutes once on first day OR
      2. Give 100 mg IV infused over 30 minutes twice on first day
    2. Day 2 until completed course (7 to 14 days total)
      1. Give 100 mg IV infused over 30 minutes once on first day OR
      2. Give 300 mg orally daily on an empty Stomach with a large glass of water
  2. Oral Dosing for Acute Skin Infection
    1. Day 1: Take 450 mg orally once on an empty Stomach with a large glass of water
    2. Day 2: Take 450 mg orally once on an empty Stomach with a large glass of water
    3. Day 3 until completed course (7 to 14 days total)
      1. Take 300 mg orally once on an empty Stomach with a large glass of water
  • Drug Interactions
  1. Food
    1. Take on an empty Stomach with a large glass of water
    2. No food 4 hours before dose or 2 hours after dose
    3. Avoid the following specific agents for 4 hours after dose
      1. Dairy
      2. Antacids (aluminum, Magnesium or Calcium containing Antacids)
      3. Iron Supplements
      4. Bismuth Subsalicylate
  2. Intravenous Fluids
    1. Incompatible with Calcium or Magnesium containing solutions
  • Adverse Effects

  2. Nausea and Vomiting are most common (>10% of patients)
  • Safety
  1. Pregnancy Category X
  2. Avoid in Lactation
    1. Avoid restarting Breast Feeding until 4 days after last dose

  1. Excreted in stool
  2. Half-Life 13.5 to 17.1 hours
  3. Bioavailability: 34.5% after single dose
