  • Indications
  1. Peptic Ulcer Disease
  2. Esophageal Reflux disease
  3. Gastritis
  4. Allergic Reaction (adjunct)
  5. Viral Warts (off label)
  • Mechanism
  • Dosing
  1. Adult (and age >=12 years)
    1. Bolus Parenteral dosing: 300 mg IV or IM every 6 to 8 hours
    2. Continuous IV Dosing: 37.5 mg/h IV
    3. Oral Dosing: 400-800 mg orally twice daily
  2. Child age <12 years (300 mg/ml oral solution)
    1. Newborns
      1. Dose: 5-10 mg/kg/day divided every 8-12 hours
    2. Infants
      1. Dose: 10-20 mg/kg/day divided every 6-12 hours
    3. Children <12 years old
      1. Dose: 20-40 mg/kg/day divided every 6 hours
  3. Creatinine Clearance <30 ml/min
    1. Give Cimetidine at half dose

  1. Antacids
    1. Take Cimetidine at least 1-2 hours before or after Antacid medications
  2. Increases serum concentration of other drugs (P450 Inhibitor)
    1. Carbamazepine
    2. Cyclosporine
    3. Diazepam
    4. Labetalol
    5. Lidocaine
    6. Nifedipine
    7. Phenytoin
    8. Procainamide
    9. Propranolol
    10. Quinidine
    11. Theophylline
    12. Tricyclic Antidepressants
    13. Valproic Acid
    14. Warfarin
  3. Decreases absorption of other medications
    1. Ketoconazole
    2. Itraconazole
