Event Monitor, Transtelephonic Event Monitor

  • Indications
  • Sporadic symptomatic episodes
  1. Syncope or Near Syncope
  2. Palpitations
  • Description
  1. Continuous EKG loop recorder worn by patient
  2. Patient pushes button on recorder when symptoms occur
  3. Event Monitor only saves recording when button pushed
    1. Records a few minutes before and after event
    2. Usually may record up to 4 episodes
  4. Recordings transmitted via phone to lab for analysis
  • Disadvantages
  1. Does not save tracings if Arrhythmia is asymptomatic
