Impregnated Gauze Dressing, Vaseline Gauze, Petrolatum impregnated gauze, Hypertonic Saline Gauze, Mesalt, Iodoform Gauze

  • Hypertonic Saline Gauze (Mesalt)
  1. Indicated for exudate absorption for cleaning wounds
  2. Change gauze daily
  3. May result in some tissue destruction
  4. Switch to Hydrogel Dressing once exudate reduced
  • Types
  • Iodoform Gauze (Iodine impregnated gauze)
  1. Indicated for tunneling wound with foul discharge
  2. Change gauze daily
  3. May cause tissue destruction (limit to <5 days)
  4. Switch to less toxic alternative once discharge reduced
  • Types
  • Vaseline Gauze (Petrolatum impregnated gauze)
  1. Indicated for wound protection and wound hydration
  2. Change every 2 to 4 days
  3. Particularly effective in extremity Skin Tears
    1. Apply Vaseline Gauze to affected area
    2. Secure gauze with Kerlix wrapped around extremity
