Resisted External Derotation Test

  • Technique
  1. Patient lies supine on table
  2. Examiner passively flexes hip to 90 degrees and internally rotates hip
  3. Patient is asked to return leg to table against resistance
    1. Hip Extension against resistance and
    2. Hip external rotation against resistance
  • Interpretation
  1. Positive Test: Patient experiences pain over lateral hip
    1. Consistent with Gluteal Tendinopathy
