Head CT
for
Concussion
in age over 16 years old (ACEP Guidelines)
Inclusion Criteria
Presenting within 24 hours for non-
Penetrating Trauma
and GCS of 14 or 15
Patients with loss of consciousness or
Amnesia
(and at least one of the following criteria)
Diffuse
Headache
Vomiting
Age over 60 years
Alcohol Intoxication
or other drug
Intoxication
Short Term Memory
deficit
Signs of
Trauma
above the clavicles
Seizure
s
GCS Score less than 15
Focal neurologic deficits
Coagulopathy
Patients without loss of consciousness or
Amnesia
(and at least one of the following criteria)
Severe
Headache
Vomiting
Age over 65 years
Basilar Skull Fracture
signs
GCS Score less than 15
Focal neurologic deficit
Coagulopathy
Significant mechanism of injury
Vehicle ejection
Pedestrian struck by vehicle
Fall from height >3 feet or 5 stairs
Indications
Head CT
for
Concussion
in age 2 to 20 years old (AAFP and AAP Guidelines)
Inclusion Criteria
Presenting within 24 hours for isolated
Closed Head Injury
Imaging for any of criteria met below
Loss of consciousness >60 seconds
Consider
CT Head
for even brief loss of consciousness
Skull Fracture

Focal neurologic deficit
