  1. Innervates Trapezius and Sternocleidomastoid motor

  2. Arises in upper spinal cord (not Medulla)
  3. Passes up through foramen magnum
    1. Runs along side vagal nerve (CN 10) briefly
    2. Descends through jugular foramen
  4. Runs backward near Jugular Vein
  5. Descends to upper sternocleidomastoid
  6. Proceeds to posterior triangle of neck to trapezius

  1. Trapezius testing
    1. Patient raises Shoulders against resistance
  2. Sternocleidomastoid Testing
    1. Patient starts with head turned to the side
    2. Attempt to turn head back against resistance
