Cefadroxil, Duricef

  • Indications
  1. See First Generation Cephalosporin
  2. Generic and similar efficacy to Cephalexin
    1. Ease of twice daily dosing instead of four times daily
  3. Specific Indications
    1. Skin and Soft Tissue Infection
    2. Streptococcal Pharyngitis
    3. Simple Urinary Tract Infections (Acute Cystitis)
    4. Not indicated for Otitis Media (inadequate coverage due to resistance)
  • Dosing
  1. May take with or without food
  2. Adult
    1. Give 1 g orally twice daily
    2. May decrease to 500 mg orally twice daily in simple UTI and Streptococcal Pharyngitis
  3. Child (age > 6 weeks)
    1. Give 30 mg/kg/day orally divided twice daily
  4. Renal Dosing (Adult)
    1. eGFR 26 to 50 ml/min
      1. First dose 1 gram orally
      2. Then 500 mg orally every 12 hours
    2. eGFR 11 to 25 ml/min
      1. Take 500 mg every 24 hours
    3. eGFR <10 ml/min
      1. Take 500 mg every 36 hours
