  • Definitions
  1. Teratoma
    1. Non-seminomatous germ cell tumor
    2. Pluripotent cells, containing various germ cell origins (endoderm, mesoderm, ectoderm)
    3. Found in the Testis, ovary as well as extra-genital sights (e.g. CNS, mediastinum, lung, Stomach, Sacrum)
    4. Mature Teratomas contain well-differentiated adult type tissues (e.g. calcified teeth, hair)
    5. Immature Teratomas contain fetal type tissues
    6. Teratomas may be benign or malignant
  2. Benign Ovarian Teratoma
    1. Benign ovarian germ cell tumor
  3. Dermoid Ovarian Cyst (Mature Ovarian Teratoma)
    1. Type of Ovarian Cystic Teratoma, typically unilateral
    2. Presents as Ovarian Mass often with sebaceous material, hair, calcified teeth, fat, bone, Muscle and other tissue
    3. Mature Ovarian Teratomas without fetal tissue types are benign in most cases (>98%)
  1. Ovarian Mass with hyperechoic area with acoustic shadow
  2. Fluid-fluid level with echogenic fluid above
  3. Hyperechoic lines and spots (dermoid mesh)
