Hydrocortisone for Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Rectal Hydrocortisone, Hydrocortisone Rectal Foam, Hydrocortisone Enema, Cortifoam, Colocort, Cortenema

  • Indications
  • Dosing
  1. Hydrocortisone Rectal Foam 10% (Cortifoam)
    1. Affects the distal left colon and Rectum (last 15 to 20 cm)
    2. Use 1 applicator (90 mg) once to twice daily for 2 to 3 weeks
    3. May extend to use 1 applicator (90 mg) every other day until remission
  2. Hydrocortisone Rectal Suspension for Enema 100 mg/60 ml (Colocort, Cortenema)
    1. Affects the entire left or descending colon
    2. Use one enema (100 mg) each evening for 3 weeks until remission
    3. Preferred over rectal foam if patient able to tolerate
