Alpha-Hydroxy acid, Lac-Hydrin, Glycolic Acid

  • Preparations
  1. Alpha-Hydroxy acid preparations
    1. Glycolic Acid (8%)
    2. Lactic Acid or Lac-Hydrin (8-12%)
    3. Urea (3-6%)
  2. Combination agents with Skin Lubricant
    1. Eucerin plus
    2. Lubriderm moisture recovery cream
  • Mechanism
  1. Forces epidermal cells to produce keratin
  2. Keratin is softer and more flexible
  3. Keratin is less likely to crack and fissure
  • Adverse Effects
  1. May burn for few minutes with first applications
  2. Do not replace or add to oil barrier
  • Dosing
  1. Dry Skin
    1. Use once to twice per day for 3 weeks
    2. Taper frequency to 1-3 days per week
  2. Aging
    1. Apply 1-2 days each week
