Appropriate needle for depth (e.g. 27 gauge 1.25 inch)

)
Anesthetic

Ropivacaine
Bupivacaine
Ultrasound
Guidance (preferred)
High frequency linear probe
Sterile
Ultrasound

Technique
Obtain procedure consent
Landmarks
Anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS)
Pubic tubercle
Injection site is 1 cm medial and inferior to the pubic tubercle
Clean, drape and prepare the site
Apply antiseptic (e.g.
Chlorhexidine
)
Insert needle directed toward landmark (ideally with
Ultrasound
guidance)
Avoid injecting directly into nerve
Surround the nerve under
Ultrasound
guidance with 5-15 ml
