Indications
Plantar Fasciitis
refractory to basic measures
Mechanism
Keeps foot in maximal dorsiflexion
May be uncomfortable if >90 degrees
May interfere with sleep
Preparation
Layer 4" dry
Fiber
glass
Casting
material into 12 plies
Length to extend between high calf and proximal toes
Put
Casting
material inside tube gauze
Apply material to foot and leg
Maximize dorsiflexion
Patient may hold tube gauze to dorsiflex foot
Apply soaked ace wrap around splint
Remove ace wrap when splint hardened
Efficacy of Posterior Night Splints
Relieved symptoms of 16 out of 16 patients (n=32)
Placebo
: 6 of 17 control patients improved
Average time to healing: 12.5 weeks
