  1. Diagnosis of Hydropneumothorax (Bronchopleural Fistula)
  • Pathophysiology
  1. Pleural Fluid in absence of Pneumothorax is silent
  2. In hydropneumothorax, chest contains air and fluid
    1. When patient moves, splash sound is audible
  • Technique
  1. Examiner auscultates lungs while:
    1. Patient moves OR
    2. Assistant grasps patients Shoulders and shakes
  • Differential Diagnosis of splash sound auscultated
  1. Bronchopleural Fistula
  2. Diaphragmatic Hernia
