  • Definitions
  1. Liposarcoma
    1. Rare malignant lesion similar to Lipoma
    2. Located in Retroperitoneum, Shoulders, and legs (esp. thighs)
  • Epidemiology
  1. Responsible for 17% of all Soft Tissue Sarcomas
  2. Most common age 50 to 60 years old
  3. Equal gender distribution between men and women
  4. Rare in children
    1. Consider lipoblastoma instead in young children
  • Symptoms
  1. Painless, rapidly expanding Soft Tissue Mass
  • Signs
  1. Asymmetric, typically mobile non-tender swelling
  2. Evaluate for proximal Lymphadenopathy
  • Imaging
  1. XRay
    1. Soft Tissue Mass
  2. MRI
    1. Findings vary based on grade and subtype
    2. Larger, well differentiated tumors may show nodular nonadipose tissue islands
  • Management
  1. Refer to orthopedic oncology for core needle biopsy and surgical resection
