Podophyllotoxin, Condylox, Podofilox

  1. Genital Warts (home application)
  • Contraindications
  1. Not recommended for mucosal lesions
    1. Avoid on perianal, rectal, Urethral, vaginal warts
  • Background
  1. Purified form of Podophyllotoxin extract
  • Mechanism
  1. Stops division of infected cells
  • Preparation
  1. Podofilox (Condylox) 0.5% solution or gel
    1. Apply solution with cotton swab
    2. Apply Gel with finger (easier to apply)
  • Technique
  1. Cycle application
    1. Apply twice daily for 3 days
    2. Wait 4 days, then restart application cycle
  2. Repeat cycle for up to 4 weekly cycles (maximum 10 cm^2)
  • Advantages
  1. Less irritating and as effective than Podophyllin
  2. Can use in conjunction with other methods
  • Precautions
  1. Allow to dry before moving around
  2. Do not wash off
  3. Do not exceed 0.5 ml per day
  • Efficacy
  1. Works best on moist mucosal skin sites
  2. Does not work on keratinized Epidermis
  3. Similar efficacy to Imiquimod
    1. Complete clearance of Genital Warts in 45-77% with a 4-33% recurrence rate

  1. Pregnancy Category C
