90% of early carcinomas appear as Erythroplakia (severe dysplasia, carcinoma in situ or carcinoma)
Signs
Erythematous counterpart to
Leukoplakia
Red, velvet-like lesion (smooth or pebbly surface)
Speckled Leukoplakia (Erythroleukoplakia) may also be present
White patches on periphery of Erythroplakia
Differential Diagnosis
Epithelial dysplasia
Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Management
Biopsy if lesion persists >2 weeks
